Manual Starters Overview
Manual starters are devices operated manually without requiring expert intervention. These starters feature a button or rotary knob that enables users to turn connected equipment on or off through mechanical linkages that open or close contacts. Note that manual starters don't break control circuits during power loss, potentially causing automatic motor restart when power returns.
Manual Starter Advantages
- Safe and economical operation
- Compact size suitable for diverse appliions
- Overload protection for motor safety
- Available with various enclosure options
- Low initial cost
Starter Motor Operation
When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid, which transfers charge from the battery to the starter motor. This current activates the motor and engages the starter drive (Bendix gear system) with the vehicle's flywheel. The motor cranks the engine to initiate combustion. Once the engine runs independently, the starter disengages automatically.
