Manual Starters Overview
Manual starters are devices operated manually, designed for simple operation without requiring expert intervention. They feature a button or rotary knob that enables users to turn connected equipment on or off through mechanical linkages that open or close contacts.
Key Features
- Safe and economical operation
- Compact size suitable for various appliions
- Overload protection for motor safety
- Available with multiple enclosure options
- Cost-effective initial investment
Note: Manual starters don't break control circuits during power loss, which means motors may restart automatically when power returns. This requires safety consideration in certain appliions.
Starter Motor Operation
When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid, which transfers charge from the battery to the starter motor. This activates the motor and engages the starter drive (Bendix gear system) with the vehicle's flywheel.
As the starter motor turns, it cranks the engine to initiate combustion. Once the engine runs independently, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the flywheel.
