Manual Starters Overview
Manual starters are devices operated manually, designed for simple and straightforward operation without requiring expert intervention. The starter includes a button or rotary knob that enables users to turn connected equipment on or off. Mechanical linkages in the buttons make contacts open or close, starting or stopping the motor.
Note: This starter type doesn't break a control circuit during power loss, meaning the motor could restart automatically when voltage is restored - a critical safety consideration in some appliions.
Key Features of Manual Starters
- Safe and economical operation
- Compact size suitable for diverse appliions
- Overload protection for motor safety
- Available with various enclosure options
- Low initial cost compared to other starter types
Starter Motor Operation
When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transmits the charge from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor, activating it along with the starter drive (Bendix gear system). The electrical charge engages the vehicle's flywheel, cranking the engine to initiate combustion in petrol and diesel vehicles.
Once the engine operates correctly, the mechanism disconnects the starter motor from the gear and flywheel as the engine no longer requires the electrical spark to maintain operation.
