Manual Starters Overview
Manual starters are manually operated devices designed for simple operation without requiring expert intervention. These starters feature a button or rotary knob that controls the connected equipment, with mechanical linkages that open or close contacts to start or stop the motor.
Key Features of Manual Starters
- Safe and economical operation
- Compact size suitable for diverse appliions
- Overload protection for motor safety
- Available in various enclosure options
- Low initial cost compared to other starter types
Important Note: Manual starters do not break the control circuit during power loss, which means the motor may restart automatically when power is restored. This requires careful consideration for safety-critical appliions.
Starter Motor Operation
When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers power from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor, activating both the motor and the starter drive (Bendix gear system).
The starter motor then engages the vehicle's flywheel, cranking the engine to initiate the combustion process in both petrol and diesel vehicles. Once the engine is running independently, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the gear and flywheel.
