Manual Starters Overview
Manual starters are simple, user-friendly devices operated manually without requiring expert intervention. They feature a button or rotary knob that controls the connected equipment through mechanical linkages that open or close contacts to start/stop the motor.
Important Safety Note:
Manual starters do not break the control circuit during power loss, which means the motor could restart automatically when power is restored. This may require special safety considerations in certain appliions.
Key Advantages of Manual Starters
- Safe and economical operation
- Compact size suitable for diverse appliions
- Built-in overload protection for motor safety
- Wide selection of enclosure options
- Low initial cost compared to other starter types
Starter Motor Operation
When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers power from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor, activating both the motor and the starter drive (Bendix gear system).
The starter motor engages the vehicle's flywheel, cranking the engine to initiate combustion in petrol and diesel engines. Once the engine is running, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the flywheel as the engine no longer requires the electrical spark to maintain operation.
