Manual Starters Overview
Manual starters are simple, user-operated devices featuring a button or rotary knob that controls connected equipment. These starters use mechanical linkages to open or close contacts, starting or stopping the motor. Note that manual starters don't break control circuits during power loss, potentially allowing automatic motor restart when power returns.
Key Advantages of Manual Starters
- Safe and economical operation
- Compact design suitable for diverse appliions
- Built-in overload protection for motor safety
- Available with various enclosure options
- Cost-effective initial investment
Starter Motor Operation
When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component directs power from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor, which engages the starter drive (Bendix gear system) with the vehicle's flywheel. The starter motor cranks the engine to initiate combustion in petrol and diesel vehicles. Once the engine is running, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the flywheel.
