Manual Starters
Manual starters are devices operated manually without requiring expert intervention. These starters feature a button or rotary knob that enables users to turn connected equipment on or off through mechanical linkages that open or close contacts. Note that manual starters don't break control circuits during power loss, which may cause motors to restart automatically when power returns - an important safety consideration for some appliions.
Key Advantages of Manual Starters
- Safe and economical operation
- Compact size suitable for diverse appliions
- Overload protection for motor safety
- Available with various enclosure options
- Low initial cost compared to other starter types
Starter Motor Operation
When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers charge from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor, activating it along with the starter drive (Bendix gear system). The engaged flywheel cranks the engine to initiate combustion in petrol and diesel vehicles. Once the engine runs independently, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the gear and flywheel.
