Description

In V-process (Vacuum Molding) casting, the V-process film is the core consumable and is often referred to as the “soul” of the V-process. It not only replicates the mold geometry but also plays a critical role in sealing the dry sand and forming the mold cavity.

1. Main Material: EVA as the Mainstream

EVA Film:

Advantages:

High elongation for easy forming

Low elastic recovery to prevent shrinkage after forming

Low gas generation to reduce casting porosity defects

Environmentally friendly

Characteristics:

Sensitive to heating temperature, allowing precise control during the forming process

2. Film Thickness and Classification

The selection of film thickness is critical depending on the complexity and size of the casting. The typical thickness range is 0.05 mm to 0.30 mm.

Fine-surface flat castings, low-carbon steel castings (e.g., locomotive frames)

Large castings with complex geometries (e.g., gearbox housings, counterweights)

Extra-Thick

≥ 0.30

Extra-large, deep-structure castings (e.g., large machine tool beds)

Note: Thicker films increase material consumption and gas evolution. Therefore, whenever possible, use the thinnest film that still ensures proper mold forming.
