A charge-coupled device (CCD) is an integrated circuit containing an array of linked or coupled, capacitors. Under the control of an external circuit, each capacitor can transfer its electric charge to a neighboring capacitor. CCD sensors are a major technology used in digital imaging.
A video scope (electronic scope) is an endoscope with a built-in video camera using CCD (charge-coupled device). The CCD endoscope converts images into electric signals for display on a TV monitor.
This is a replacement CCD image sensor module for flexible video endoscopes, supplied for Olympus, Fujinon and Pentax platforms. The CCD at the distal tip is what turns a flexible scope into a video instrument: it converts the optical image into an electrical signal that the processor displays. It is also the component most exposed to failure — moisture ingress, impact at the tip or simply age will produce a permanent image defect, and in most cases the scope is otherwise mechanically sound.
A CCD is an integrated circuit containing an array of coupled capacitors; under external control each capacitor transfers its charge to a neighbour, and the resulting signal is read out as a video line. In an electronic endoscope the array sits behind the objective lens at the distal tip, which is why a CCD replacement is a fine-precision task: the sensor must be aligned to the optical axis and the assembly resealed so that the repair does not simply reintroduce the moisture path that caused the failure.
