3. Solution Preparation
  1. Fill a spare tank with half the working volume of water; heat to ~55°C.
  2. Add nickel sulfate and nickel chloride; stir to dissolve completely.
  3. Adjust pH to ~3 with 10% dilute sulfuric acid.
  4. Add 2.5 mL/L 30% hydrogen peroxide; stir 45 min.
  5. Adjust pH to ~5.4 with 4% NaOH; keep at 55°C.
  6. Add 2.5 g/L powdered activated carbon; stir 30 min, stand 4-5 h, filter.
  7. Add boric acid; stir to dissolve.
  8. Add water to full volume; adjust pH to 3.8 with 10% H2SO4
  9. Electrolyze 10 h at 0.2-0.4 A/dm2 with corrugated cathode (uniform color required).
  10. Add brightener, softener, wetting agent; electrolyze 20 min; start trial plating.
4. Solution Maintenance & Notes
  • Regularly analyze nickel, chloride, and boric acid; keep pH 4.2–4.8, temperature 50–60℃.
  • Add brightener and softener in small, frequent doses.
  • Ratio: Brightener : Softener = 1 : 1.2–1.5.
  • Consumption:
    • Brightener: 80–150 mL/KAH
    • Softener: 100–180 mL/KAH
