Working principle of mud pump
1. Structural dynamic principle
The motor drives the crankshaft to rotate through a belt/coupling.
The crankshaft drives the connecting rod, crosshead, and piston rod to perform reciprocating linear motion.
The piston moves left and right inside the cylinder liner, forming a volume change, thereby achieving suction and discharge.
2. Double action principle (key)
The meaning of "double action" is: when the piston moves to the left, it pumps slurry, and when it moves to the right, it pumps slurry continuously, with less pulsation.
Piston moves to the right:
The volume on the right side of the piston decreases → the mud is squeezed → the drain valve is pushed open → it is discharged.
The left volume of the piston increases → negative pressure is formed → the suction valve is opened → mud is sucked in.
Pressure and flow characteristics
1.Flow rate: determined by piston area, stroke, and stroke
2.Pressure: determined by drilling resistance
3.The pump is equipped with a safety valve that automatically overflows when the pressure exceeds the limit, protecting the equipment
