Project Overview
A river dredging contractor was tasked with removing silt and sand from a riverbed stretch of 5 km, depth 8 m. The dredging system employed a cutter suction dredge with a 14-inch slurry suction hose connecting the dredge head to the pump on the vessel.
Initial Challenge
Initially, the client used a generic hose that suffered rapid wear of the inner lining, frequent leaks, and vacuum collapse under heavy suction, leading to downtime every few days for replacement.
Hongruntong Solution
Hongruntong Marine supplied them with a 14″ ID slurry suction hose with a multilayer reinforced design: a thick wear-resistant rubber liner, dual steel wire helix reinforcement, external abrasion protective cover, and full flange ends.
Results
Over a six-month campaign, the Hongruntong hose lasted more than double the previous service life, with zero vacuum collapse events, and reduced maintenance stops by 60%. The client reported cost savings of 25% over the project life due to fewer hose replacements and reduced labor downtime.
Additional Case: Mining Tailings
A mining tailings pond dewatering job used 300 mm ID hoses. The project experienced heavy abrasive coal tailings. The Hongruntong suction hoses ran continuously for 1200 operating hours with only minimal wear on the liner and no structural failures.
