Fire Retardant Treated MDF Crown Moulding Decorative Trim Moulding for Interior Exterior
Our fire-retardant treated MDF crown moulding delivers the smooth, consistent finish of medium-density fiberboard with B1 fire rating and enhanced termite resistance for commercial applications. Manufactured from E1-grade MDF (500-600 kg/m³ density) with fire-retardant chemicals integrated during the fiber preparation stage, every fiber carries fire protection throughout the entire board thickness. Post-milling, the moulding receives pressurized termite-resistant treatment and two coats of premium water-based gesso primer, creating a flawlessly smooth, paint-ready surface. The uniform density and lack of grain make MDF the preferred choice for painted finishes where absolute smoothness is required. Meet commercial fire codes without sacrificing finish quality.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does fire-retardant MDF differ from standard MDF?
Fire-retardant MDF has flame-retardant chemicals (typically ammonium polyphosphate-based) integrated during fiber preparation, providing uniform protection throughout the board. In a fire, it forms a protective char layer that slows flame spread and reduces smoke production—achieving B1/Class A ratings standard MDF cannot reach.
Is this MDF suitable for high-humidity areas?
This is MR (Moisture Resistant) grade MDF suitable for humidity up to 85% RH. For bathrooms, kitchens, and areas with direct water contact, we recommend our PVC moulding product line which is 100% waterproof.
Does the fire retardant treatment affect the paint finish?
After the 2-coat gesso primer, the surface is indistinguishable from standard primed MDF. The fire-retardant chemicals are contained within the board and do not migrate through the primer. Standard architectural paints adhere and perform identically.
What is the termite protection mechanism in MDF?
The pressurized borate treatment penetrates 3-5mm into the board surface, providing interior termite protection (H2 equivalent). For exterior or ground-contact applications, we recommend our treated solid wood or PVC products.
