The valve controls the internal structure of the battery, optimizing the efficiency of the recombination reaction and minimizing the consumption of electrolyte.

During storage, the battery will gradually lose capacity due to self-discharge. The self-discharge rate is low, typically less than 3% per month at 25°C.
