Refillable Systems: This is one of its biggest modern strengths. Many brands now sell refillable systems where the outer shell (the base and mechanism) is a durable, long-lasting component. Consumers only repurchase the inner product cartridge (the tube filled with balm), which generates significantly less plastic waste.
Recyclable Materials: The containers are often made from a single type of plastic (like #5 PP), which, while not universally recycled, is more easily recyclable than complex multi-material packaging. Many brands also use Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) plastic.
Reduced Product Waste: The efficient elevator mechanism ensures nearly 100% of the product is used, as it can be pushed up completely until it's gone. This contrasts with jars, where product can get stuck under the rim and on the sides, leading to waste.
