There are two great options for cork insulation boards: expanded cork board and coarse granule cork insulation board. The traditional expanded cork board is 100% natural made by super-heating cork granules which forces them to expand and release their resin, which then forms a bond to bind the granules together. Expanded (or black) cork is a fantastic insulator first because of all the air trapped inside the cork granules and second because it is 100% natural. But its disadvantage is a little brittle. It can be damaged by friction or some kind of impact.

Compare with traditional expanded cork board, coarse granule cork insulation board is more robust, meantime retains the natural properties of large cork granules and the attractive appearance. It is made of large, 2-14mm, cork granules, which are bound together to make this kind of cork boards. Coarse granule cork insulation board can either be used in wall cavities or left visible on internal walls, where as well as giving an attractive natural finish, can also be used as a cork notice board for pins etc.
