PUTANKA utilizes tank track movement mechanics. When a tank attempts passage, the wire mesh engages with the tracks, progressively winding around the active wheel to immobilize the vehicle. This mechanism also triggers anti-tank weapon detonations prematurely, reducing attack risks.

Extensively deployed since World War II, PUTANKA demonstrates significant defensive capabilities against armored assaults. It functions effectively both independently and when integrated with mines and trenches in multi-layered defense systems. By halting or slowing tank advances, it provides critical response time for defensive countermeasures or strategic withdrawals.
