M30 M33 Heavy Duty Hex Metal Bolt Metal Nut Washer SS304 SS316 for High-Strength Applications
Product Description:
Applications: Key Differences between SS304 and SS316
Corrosion Resistance:
SS304 is highly resistant to corrosion in a wide range of environments, but it may be susceptible to pitting and crevice corrosion in harsher conditions, such as those with chlorides.
SS316 has superior corrosion resistance, especially in marine and chemical environments. The addition of molybdenum (2-3%) significantly enhances its resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.
Strength:
SS304 has a tensile strength of around 515 MPa and a yield strength of around 205 MPa.
SS316 has a tensile strength of around 515 MPa and a yield strength of around 170 MPa. While the tensile strengths are similar, SS316 is slightly more ductile.
Temperature Resistance:
SS304 can handle temperatures up to around 870°C (1600°F) intermittently and 925°C (1700°F) continuously.
SS316 can handle slightly higher temperatures, up to around 925°C (1700°F) intermittently and 1110°C (2030°F) continuously.
Cost:
SS304 is generally less expensive than SS316 due to the lower nickel and molybdenum content.
SS316 is more expensive due to the additional molybdenum content, which enhances its performance.
Applications:
SS304 is widely used in general industrial applications, kitchen equipment, appliances, and decorative items where moderate corrosion resistance is sufficient.
SS316 is preferred in more demanding environments, such as marine applications, chemical processing, and food processing equipment where high corrosion resistance is critical.
