Description

The BSM Agricultural Furrow Plough is designed for agricultural tractors from approximately 40HP to 120HP. It is a three-point mounted mouldboard plough used for primary tillage, deep soil turning, furrow formation and farmland preparation before planting.

Unlike a hydraulic reversible mouldboard plough, this conventional furrow plough focuses on a simpler mechanical structure, straightforward tractor matching and practical primary tillage for farms that do not require hydraulic reversing at the end of every pass.

Different configurations can be selected according to tractor horsepower, tractor operating weight, rear lifting capacity, number of furrows, required working width, working depth, soil resistance and farm size.

Main Agricultural Applications

  • Primary tillage before planting
  • Deep soil turning
  • Furrow opening
  • Breaking and turning cultivated soil layers
  • Burying light crop residue and surface weeds
  • Dryland preparation
  • Maize field preparation
  • Wheat field preparation
  • Rice field preparation where field conditions are suitable
  • General farmland soil preparation

How the Furrow Plough Works

The plough is connected to the tractor through a rear three-point hitch and is pulled forward by tractor traction.

During operation, the ploughshare cuts into the soil while the mouldboard lifts, breaks and turns the soil layer. This creates a furrow and moves the turned soil to one side.

The final ploughing result depends on working depth, tractor forward speed, soil moisture, soil resistance, plough adjustment and tractor traction.

Main Product Features

  • Conventional Mouldboard Structure: Suitable for primary tillage, soil inversion and furrow formation.
  • Three-Point Mounted Design: Connects directly to a compatible agricultural tractor through the rear three-point linkage.
  • 40-120HP Tractor Range: Different configurations can be selected for utility and heavy-duty tractors.
  • Model-Based Furrow Quantity: The number of furrows is selected according to tractor capacity and field requirements.
  • Adjustable Working Requirement: Working width and depth depend on the selected model and actual soil conditions.
  • Strong Soil Turning: The mouldboard structure helps turn the soil and bury suitable surface residue.
  • Simple Mechanical Structure: Compared with hydraulic reversible ploughs, the conventional structure is simpler to operate and maintain.
  • OEM Support: Color, logo and selected specifications can be customized according to order requirements.

Because the current BSM furrow plough series includes different configurations, the final number of furrows, working width, working depth and machine weight should be confirmed according to the selected model before ordering.

How to Match Furrow Plough Size with Tractor Horsepower

Tractor horsepower is the first reference, but it should not be used as the only selection factor.

A wider plough or a plough with more furrows creates greater draft resistance. The same tractor may require a smaller configuration in hard or dry soil than in previously cultivated loam.

Tractor Power Suggested Matching Direction Typical Application
40-50HP Compact furrow plough configuration Small farms, lighter soil and lower daily workload
50-70HP Small to medium furrow plough configuration Small-medium farms and regular primary tillage
70-80HP Medium furrow plough configuration Medium farms and mixed-crop field preparation
80-100HP Medium to larger configuration Medium-large farms and deeper primary tillage
100-120HP Larger furrow plough configuration Larger fields and higher daily tillage requirements

The table above is a matching direction rather than a fixed model specification. Final selection should consider tractor operating weight, rear lifting capacity, traction, soil hardness, field slope and required working depth.

Recommended BSM Tractor Matching

50HP Tractor

A 50HP tractor is suitable for compact furrow plough configurations on small and medium farms, especially where field size is limited and soil resistance is moderate.

The final number of furrows should be selected according to tractor weight, rear lifting capacity and soil conditions.

70HP Tractor

A 70HP 4WD tractor is a practical match for medium-farm primary tillage. It provides more traction than smaller utility tractors while still maintaining good field maneuverability.

For 70HP applications, plough size should be confirmed according to soil resistance, required working depth and rear lifting capacity.

80HP Tractor

An 80HP 4WD tractor provides additional traction and rear implement capacity for medium-farm primary tillage.

It can be considered for a medium furrow plough configuration after confirming total implement weight, working depth and actual soil resistance.

90HP Tractor

A 90HP tractor is suitable for buyers who require broader implement compatibility and stronger primary tillage performance.

The furrow plough configuration should still be selected according to tractor operating weight, rear lifting capacity and soil conditions rather than horsepower alone.

100HP Tractor

A 100HP tractor is suitable for medium and large farms that require deeper soil preparation and longer daily tillage operations.

For larger conventional furrow plough configurations, tractor weight distribution and rear lifting capacity should be checked carefully before selection.

Furrow Plough vs Disc Plough

A mouldboard furrow plough and a disc plough can both be used for primary tillage, but they work differently and suit different field conditions.

Comparison Furrow Plough Disc Plough
Working Element Ploughshare and mouldboard Concave disc blades
Main Action Cuts, lifts and turns the soil layer Cuts and turns soil through rotating discs
Typical Use Conventional primary tillage and strong soil inversion Dryland tillage and fields where discs handle soil and residue effectively
Residue Handling Good soil inversion and burial when conditions are suitable Rotating discs can handle certain residue and uneven conditions more easily
Selection Factor Soil resistance, furrow quantity and working depth Disc quantity, working width, depth and soil condition

Conventional Furrow Plough vs Hydraulic Reversible Mouldboard Plough

These two mouldboard plough structures serve different operating requirements.

The conventional furrow plough on this page uses a simpler three-point mounted structure and is suitable for buyers who require practical primary tillage without hydraulic reversing.

A hydraulic reversible mouldboard plough adds a hydraulic reversing mechanism, allowing the plough body to rotate at the end of each pass for continuous return-pass ploughing.

Comparison Conventional Furrow Plough 1LF Hydraulic Reversible Plough
Main Structure Conventional mouldboard furrow plough Hydraulic reversible mouldboard structure
Tractor Range Approx. 40-120HP Approx. 50-120HP
Hydraulic Reversing No Yes
Typical Buyer Need Simple and practical primary tillage Continuous two-direction ploughing and more uniform field finish
Hydraulic Requirement Mainly rear lifting through three-point hitch Rear lifting plus compatible hydraulic outlet for reversing

For buyers who require hydraulic reversing, 3-5 furrow configurations and more controlled return-pass ploughing, see:

Suitable Soil Conditions

Previously Cultivated Farmland

The furrow plough is suitable for regular primary tillage on farmland that has been cultivated in previous seasons.

Dryland Farming

It can be used for dryland soil turning and field preparation when tractor traction and plough size are correctly matched.

Moderate Crop Residue

The mouldboard can bury suitable surface residue during soil inversion. However, excessive long stalks or heavy residue may require chopping or residue management before ploughing.

How Soil Resistance Affects Plough Selection

Soil resistance has a major effect on tractor draft requirement.

In lighter or previously cultivated soil, the tractor may operate a wider or higher-furrow configuration.

In hard, dry, compact or heavy soil, a smaller working width or fewer furrows may be required to maintain stable traction and working depth.

For this reason, buyers should provide soil information before final model selection.

Why Tractor Weight and Rear Lift Capacity Matter

The plough is carried by the tractor three-point linkage during transport and field turning. Therefore, rear lifting capacity must be sufficient for the selected plough weight.

Tractor operating weight also affects traction. A tractor with sufficient engine horsepower but insufficient operating weight may experience excessive wheel slip when working in high-resistance soil.

For larger plough configurations, front counterweights may be required depending on tractor weight distribution and implement weight.

Field Operation Recommendations

  • Check all three-point linkage pins and bolts before operation
  • Confirm plough body alignment before entering the field
  • Start with a suitable working depth and adjust gradually
  • Maintain stable tractor speed
  • Avoid excessive wheel slip
  • Do not turn sharply while the plough is fully engaged in the soil
  • Lift the plough before reversing
  • Check ploughshares and mouldboards regularly for wear
  • Remove soil residue after operation
  • Lubricate moving and adjustment points according to maintenance requirements

Seasonal Field Preparation Workflow

A conventional primary tillage workflow can include:

  1. Primary tillage: furrow plough
  2. Clod breaking and leveling: disc harrow
  3. Fine seedbed preparation: rotary tiller if required
  4. Planting: corn planter or suitable seeder
