Typical 3-Part NCR Paper Configuration

For a standard three-part NCR receipt or form, the structure is as follows:

• Top Sheet (CB – Coated Back):
  The back is coated with microcapsules. This sheet receives the original writing.

• Middle Sheet (CFB – Coated Front & Back):
  The front reacts with the dye from the top sheet, while the back transfers the image to the next sheet.

• Bottom Sheet (CF – Coated Front):
  The front is coated with a color developer and receives the final copy.

Only the middle sheet (CFB) performs both receiving and transferring functions. To prevent accidental image transfer caused by excessive pressure, forms are usually supplied with a cardboard separator.
