Introduction:

‌ Methylene blue is a phenothiazine salt with a dark green bronze crystalline or powdery appearance, soluble in water and ethanol. Methylene blue is stable in air, and its aqueous solution is alkaline and toxic.‌

Uses:

Bacterial stain. Mixed indicator for serum protein biochemical test. Prepare staining solution for exfoliated cell test. Prepare alkaline methylene blue staining solution. Redox indicator. Determination of mercury and tin. Reduction titrant, used to precipitate perchlorate and rhenate. Photometric determination of selenium and molybdenum with others. Used as redox indicator, adsorption indicator and biological stain. Mainly used for dyeing cotton, acrylic fiber, linen, silk, paper, also used for coloring bamboo and wood and for making ink and lake, and can also be used for dyeing biological bacteria.
