Industrial Applications
- Important inorganic raw material in the chemical industry for production of magnesium products (magnesium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, magnesium oxide) and antifreeze agents
- Metallurgical industry: Production of metallic magnesium (through melt electrolysis), liquid chlorine, and high-purity magnesium sand
- Building materials: Raw material for lightweight building materials including fiberglass tiles, decorative panels, magnesia cement, fireproof doors/windows, and artificial marble
- Food industry: Used as food additive, protein coagulant (notably for tender tofu production)
- Refractory materials: Binder for furnace arms and manufacturing of secondary fluxes
- Transportation: Effective road deicing and snow melting agent with low corrosiveness
- Medical applications: Used in "dried brine" preparations and as a laxative
- Agricultural uses: Magnesium fertilizer, potassium magnesium fertilizer, and cotton defoliant
- Industrial processing: Curing agent, flavoring agent, dehydrating agent, and organizational improver
