Product Overview
MIL-W-22759/21 defines a 1000V, nickel-plated high strength copper alloy wire with extruded PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) insulation, rated for continuous operation from -55°C to +260°C. The specification has been transitioned to SAE International under the designation SAE AS22759/21. Our wire is manufactured to conform to the requirements of this specification.
Key Advantages
260°C continuous rating. PTFE insulation maintains dielectric integrity at temperatures where most fluoropolymer insulations reach their upper limit.
Nickel-plated conductor. Resists sulfur attack and eliminates silver migration risk — critical in semiconductor, refinery, and power generation environments.
1000V rating. Higher voltage capability than the 600V-rated variants in the Mil-Spec wire family.
High strength alloy substrate. Greater tensile strength improves resistance to vibration fatigue and handling damage during installation.
Low outgassing. Suitable for vacuum and cleanroom applications where contamination control is required.
Chemical resistance. PTFE resists aviation fuels, hydraulic fluids, solvents, ozone, and UV exposure.

Common Questions
Q: My drawing references MIL-W-22759/21 but I see AS22759/21 in supplier catalogs. Are these the same?A: Yes. MIL-W-22759 was transitioned to SAE International under the AS22759 designation. The /21 slash sheet carries forward the same technical requirements. Our wire conforms to the requirements of this specification under either designation.
Q: Why is the conductor nickel-plated rather than silver-plated?A: Nickel plating provides resistance to sulfur-containing atmospheres that degrade silver, and eliminates the risk of silver migration under electrical stress. This makes nickel-plated conductors the preferred choice in semiconductor tools, refinery instrumentation, and power generation equipment.
Q: What documentation is provided with shipment?A: We supply material certificates and dimensional inspection reports with each order. Additional test data can be provided upon request.
Q: Can you supply sizes outside the AWG 20–28 range?A: Our standard range is AWG 20–28. Custom sizes may be available — please inquire with your requirements.
Q: Is this PTFE aerospace wire suitable for vacuum environments?A: Yes. PTFE has low outgassing characteristics and is commonly used in vacuum and cleanroom applications.
