Description

Carperitide is a 28‑amino‑acid peptide hormone identical to human α‑atrial natriuretic peptide (α‑hANP), produced by recombinant or solid‑phase synthesis. It is a key endogenous regulator of cardiovascular homeostasis and fluid‑electrolyte balance, secreted by atrial myocytes in response to stretch/volume overload.
Mechanism of action:
  • Binds to NPR‑A receptors on vascular smooth muscle and renal cells → activates guanylyl cyclase → raises cGMP → vasodilation (reduces afterload) and natriuresis/diuresis (reduces preload)
  • Inhibits RAAS: suppresses renin, angiotensin II, aldosterone
  • Inhibits endothelin‑1 secretion → further vasodilation
  • Reduces sympathetic tone → lowers heart rate and blood pressure
