To improve boiler efficiency, header boilers have evolved into tube boilers to increase heat transfer area. Water flows from the drum to the lower box via the downcomer, distributing to each tube bundle through the box. The water in these tube bundles continuously absorbs thermal energy before returning to the drum after collection in the upper header. These upper and lower headers are critical boiler components.
