Product Introduction
The water wall is a key heating element in the boiler, made up of multiple rows of steel tubes arranged around the furnace chamber. Inside these tubes, water or steam circulates, while outside they absorb heat from the flames in the furnace.
Its main role is to capture radiant heat from high-temperature combustion gases, helping the fluid inside move upward and gradually turn into steam through heating.
Originally used mainly for cooling the furnace, water walls have evolved into the primary heating surface in today's boilers thanks to their efficient heat transfer. They are especially important in high-capacity boilers, where they can absorb 40% to 50%—or even more—of the total heat in the system.
Key Advantages
- Ensures furnace wall leakproofness and reduces combustion chamber air leakage
- Provides complete combustion chamber water cooling, preventing coking during supplemental firing
- Features minimal thermal storage capacity for rapid heating/cooling cycles
- Top-supported design reduces framework load and facilitates overhang
- Enhances tube heat absorption capacity compared to bare tubes
- Factory-direct manufacturing improves component integration and reduces installation workload

Structural Classification
Plain Tube Type: Simplest structure using seamless steel pipes.
Membrane Type: Features welded fin tubes forming a sealed heating surface, improving airtightness and furnace protection.
Squeaked Tube Type: Incorporates welded pins for refractory application, ideal for difficult ignition or liquid slag discharge furnaces.
Layout variations include attached wall (single-side heating) and partition wall (double-sided heating) configurations for different boiler requirements.
Construction Details
Membrane water wall construction involves precise dimensional checks, specialized welding techniques to minimize deformation, and complex assembly for components like furnace bottoms and flame angles. Special attention is given to:
- Dimensional adjustment of tube rows including width, length, and flatness
- Specialized welding sequences to control shrinkage deformation
- Complex assembly of rear water wall components with flame angles
- Precision ball passing through specially configured piping systems
