C-Reactive Protein CRP Elisa Test Kit

INTENDED USE

CRP has both anti-inflammatory and pro-inflammatory properties and helps the body identify and remove damaged cells and foreign pathogens. CRP levels rise and fall quickly when an inflammatory stimulus is present or removed. However, persistently elevated CRP levels can indicate chronic inflammatory conditions, such as:

  • Chronic infections
  • Inflammatory arthritides, such as rheumatoid arthritis
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Autoimmune disorders
  • Lung diseases
A healthcare provider may order a CRP test to help identify or monitor inflammation in these conditions. During the test, a healthcare provider takes a blood sample from a vein in the arm, usually at the elbow bend. Results can take a few days to come in.
A normal CRP level is generally under 10 milligrams per liter (mg/L), but this can vary depending on the lab and procedure used. A CRP level above 10 mg/L may indicate an inflammatory reaction in the body, but more tests are needed to determine the cause. Other factors that can cause elevated CRP levels include:
  • Hard exercise, such as intense weight training or a long run
  • Being in the second half of pregnancy
  • Taking birth control pills
