The car height sensor (also known as the body height sensor or vehicle height sensor) is a key component used to detect real-time changes in the relative displacement between the body and the suspension. It is widely applied in air suspension systems, active suspension systems, and automatic headlight adjustment systems.

Function:

  • Adjust the air spring inflation volume or the damping/stiffness of the active suspension to maintain the vehicle body level;
  • Automatically correct the headlight illumination angle to avoid glare from oncoming vehicles;
  • Provide center of gravity height and attitude reference for ADAS, ESC and other systems to improve braking and handling stability

Common Faults and Symptoms

  1. Sensor linkage detachment or loose ball joint → Instrument reports "Suspension System Failure", inconsistent left and right body height;
  2. Shade plate dust obstruction (photoelectric type) → Signal loss, headlight illumination too high or dim;
  3. Magnet demagnetization/Hall chip damage → Output voltage stuck, air suspension unable to inflate;
  4. Plug water ingress and rust → Signal drift, headlight frequent up and down movement at night.
