As the terminal component of the cleaning system, the headlight washer nozzle is prone to various malfunctions due to its external exposure or prolonged contact with contaminants. Common types and causes are as follows:

Nozzle Blockage

This represents the most prevalent fault. During vehicle operation, foreign matter such as silt, insect residue, and dust adheres to the nozzle's minute orifices, gradually causing obstruction. Prolonged use of tap water instead of dedicated windscreen washer fluid allows mineral deposits within the water to accumulate within the orifices, preventing fluid discharge or significantly reducing output.

Nozzle Misalignment / Deformation

Typically mounted on the outer edge of the bumper, nozzles are vulnerable to stone impacts, direct high-pressure water jets from car washes, or external abrasions. These can cause the spray angle to shift, preventing precise cleaning fluid application to the headlight surface. In severe cases, deformation of the nozzle housing may occur, rendering it entirely non-functional.

Nozzle Leakage

Aged connection joints between nozzles and piping, failed sealing rings, or nozzle body cracks caused by freezing temperatures or material degradation can lead to cleaning fluid seeping through gaps during operation. This reduces spray pressure and results in wastage of cleaning solution.

Pop-up nozzle jamming

Pop-up nozzles rely on spring, hydraulic, or motor-driven retraction mechanisms. Contamination of guide rails with silt or rust, or spring fatigue and breakage, may cause failure to extend or retract after deployment. Frozen cleaning fluid in winter can immobilise the mechanism; forced operation risks nozzle damage.

Nozzle Orifice Wear/Enlargement

Prolonged high-pressure cleaning fluid jets or abrasion from hard objects can cause orifice wear and enlargement. This transforms the originally concentrated columnar or fan-shaped water stream into a dispersed, weak flow, significantly reducing cleaning efficacy.
