The DC Reactor (also known as DC Choke or Smoothing Reactor) is installed in the DC circuit after rectification. Since the pulse number of the rectifier circuit is always limited, harmonic interference frequently appears in the output rectified voltage. A smoothing reactor is required to suppress these harmonics. DC transmission converter stations are equipped with smoothing reactors to make the output DC closer to ideal DC. In DC-powered thyristor electric drives, the smoothing reactor is also indispensable.

The DC reactor is connected between the DC rectification stage and the inverter stage of the VFD, which makes the inverter operation more stable and improves the power factor of the inverter. It is made of imported cold-rolled silicon steel sheets, mainly used to improve the input power factor, reduce input high-order harmonics, and minimize conducted and radiated interference to the outside.
