Thermocouple Extension & Compensation Wire
There are multiple types and grades of thermocouple wire. Each type has a specific combination of metal alloys that defines its characteristics. Thermocouple grade wire is used to manufacture thermocouple probes, normally for the junction and inside the stem sheath.
Thermocouple Types
- Type K: Most commonly used with operating range from -200°C to +1260°C. Offers better oxidation resistance (except vs Type N). Not recommended for sulphurous atmospheres without protection.
- Type N: Provides longer life, better high temperature exposure, and improved EMF drift reliability.
- Type E: Highest EMF output per degree among standard thermocouples.
- Type J: Cost-effective with high EMF output. Suitable for oxidizing conditions up to 760°C.
- Type T: Suitable for oxidizing, reducing inert atmosphere or vacuum applications.
