This cooler overcomes corrosion challenges by employing anodic protection, an electrochemical technique that maintains stainless steel in a passive, non-corroding state.
Technology and Principle of Operation
The technology is based on anodic protection, which involves polarizing stainless steel components to a specific potential within their "passive range." A cathodic system, typically consisting of elongated cathodes running through the shell or pin cathodes inserted in nozzles, is used with a reference electrode and potentiostat (DC power supply).
Passivation: By applying a small direct current, the equipment's internal surfaces are forced into a passive state where a protective oxide film forms. This film acts as a barrier, reducing corrosion rates by several orders of magnitude.
Controlled Potential: The system constantly monitors electrochemical potential relative to a reference electrode. The controller adjusts current to keep the metal safely within the passive zone, avoiding both active corrosion and transpassive corrosion.
