Duplex Stainless Steel Pipe S31803 Pipes
Duplex Steel 2205 Seamless Tube is a nitrogen-enhanced duplex stainless steel specifically engineered to address common corrosion issues encountered with 300 series stainless steels. The term "duplex" refers to a family of stainless steels that combine both austenitic and ferritic microstructures. The composition of 2205 duplex stainless steel features austenite pools surrounded by a continuous ferrite phase. In the annealed condition, 2205 contains approximately 40-50% ferrite. Often referred to as the workhorse grade, 2205 is the most widely used grade within the duplex family of stainless steels.
The advantage of this duplex structure lies in its combination of beneficial characteristics from both ferritic alloys (stress corrosion cracking resistance and high strength) and austenitic alloys (ease of fabrication and corrosion resistance).
Use of 2205 Duplex stainless steel should be limited to temperatures below 600°F. Extended exposure to elevated temperatures can cause embrittlement in 2205 stainless.
