UNS S31653 Type 316LN Stainless Steel is a low-carbon, nitrogen-enhanced version of Type 316 molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel. This alloy provides superior resistance to general corrosion and pitting/crevice corrosion compared to conventional chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steels like Type 304. It also delivers higher creep, stress-rupture, and tensile strength at elevated temperatures. The nitrogen content in Type 316LN provides additional resistance to sensitization in various applications.
Stainless Steel 316LN vs Stainless Steel 316L
The nitrogen content in Type 316LN stainless steel provides solid solution hardening, resulting in higher minimum specified yield strength compared to Type 316L stainless steel. Both Type 316LN and Type 316L alloys offer excellent resistance to general corrosion and pitting/crevice corrosion.
